Hull International House (HiH) provides “a place of welcome and short-term support to those in need”.
We wish to recruit a permanent Lead Resettlement Worker to further develop and lead delivery of our
supported housing services.
In total we have 43 rooms and over the last 10 years we have regularly provided more than “just a place of
welcome and a room”, with additional advice and resettlement support provided to up to 10 residents at any
one time. The majority of the other rooms are let to foreign students visiting the local university or others
working for local personal care firms.
We already have a basic assessment and support framework in place, and with a small staff team we
currently support a caseload of c.10 residents. We have agreements in place to increase the capacity and
quality of support HiH provides so that we can support c.25 residents and we see the Lead Resettlement
Worker both delivering support and developing the capacity and quality of our services.
The post holder will need to have experience of working with individuals from a range of backgrounds and
assessing needs to identify if HiH is an appropriate accommodation option for them, whether their needs
meet eligible housing benefit scheme criteria and submitting applications to the local authority to house
such residents. The post will also lead on developing and delivering appropriate support plans so that
during their stay at HiH residents are supported to move on to resettle independently into the community.
Experience and knowledge is also required of working with and securing support from statutory agencies
e.g. voluntary sector partners and the broader welfare/benefits/asylum/immigration systems.
This post would be an ideal opportunity for someone looking to develop their career. With your existing
experience of working within the supported housing/resettlement sector, most likely in a supervisory
capacity, this role would provide you with the opportunity to take the lead in developing HiH services and
potentially build a team to provide residents with much needed support.
In Hull there is a chronic shortage of accommodation and resettlement support for those in need of such
services, especially refugees/those recently granted Leave To Remain. That is why the HiH Management
Group wish to increase both the number of rooms and the capacity of resettlement support available at “the
house” so we can help more individuals to settle and integrate effectively into life in the UK.
